About Me – My Gardening Growth

Hello gardners! I'm Brianna, a part-time office worker and student for a Master of Arts in Communication, amidst the hustle, there's always room for houseplants in my life. My journey with houseplants began as a goal to add a touch of nature to my small room. Little did I know, it would become a passion that brings beauty to my home. Over time, I’ve collected 50+ plants, each with its own unique personality and care requirements. I really have learned through trial and error to keep these plants alive… I’ve purchased a few from my local plant stores more than once!

I had a little greenhouse escape this weekend! I I had a little greenhouse escape this weekend! I wandered through @robertplantegreenhouses with a hot chocolate in hand and I had a great time. Between the Christmas displays, the warm air, and the jungle-y paths, it felt like stepping into a world away from all the snow we got. As someone who spends most days bouncing between work, school, and home, I forget how fun and relaxing it can be to just look at plants instead of thinking about my to-do list If you’re feeling stretched thin lately, consider this your reminder that you’re allowed to appreciate plants without adding anything to your plate. A 20-minute wander in a greenhouse (or even scrolling through photos of your own plants) can do the trick! Have you visited any cozy plant spots lately? 🌿✨

Make sure to meal prep for the busy times Since it’s fall I’m all about soup, I’ve made butternut squash and carrot soup, tomato and carrot soup, and now a sweet potato apple and carrot soup! (Carrots are cheap okay?) I’ve been freezing soup into 1 cup cubes and putting those in large baggies. It makes a good easy lunch, or sauce over dinner when you’re too busy to worry about getting your veggies in! Lately I’ve been thinking about how the choices we Lately I’ve been thinking about how the choices we make now shape where we end up later. For me, that means showing up to study, doing the work, and trying to stay curious even when it’s hard. But it also means knowing when to slow down. I take breaks with my plants, drink too much coffee, and watch old TV shows while I work through readings. I think before I act, take my time with things, and try not to rush the process, even when it feels like everyone else is moving faster. It’s not always exciting, but it’s real. And I’m learning to trust that these small choices, stacked over time, will take me where I want to go. Welcome October! It’s going to be a busy month and Welcome October! It’s going to be a busy month and my Google calendar is full 🗓️ Some highlights of goals for the month are to complete my first PhD school project, submit my final MA thesis, and to keep meal prepping! I’m looking forward to a dreamy fall with thanksgiving, Halloween, and of course my a birthday trip for my Grandma! (Hi grandma) 👋 I’ll keep watering my plants when I need a break, and I’m really looking forward to starting to prep them for winter! One girl trying to do her PhD, 10 obsessions! 1. One girl trying to do her PhD, 10 obsessions! 1. Meal prepping is super important, this stops you from getting takeout as often! Having nutritious meals ready is SO important. 2. Having a garden during the warmer months is a great way to get outside, enjoy some sun, and get your hands dirty (literally). Plus at the end of the season you get to reap the rewards! 3. Coffee at home, coffee on the go, coffee at 10pm, it’s a staple! How else are you supposed to keep working so hard? (Please don’t have coffee at 10pm) 4. Same as gardening, houseplants get your hands dirty! Taking some time to just water your plants, rotate them, etc, is a great way to take a break from schoolwork! 5. I LOVE crystals, they’re cute, fun, witchy, what’s not to love? I keep some for luck, some for calming, some are healing, why not have fun with it? 6. You NEED work tools, a laptop, a notebook, actual books, they’re all super important for your academic journey. 7. As much as we’d all love to stay at home all the time, you’ve got to go to campus every once in a while! Isn’t it better when campus is pretty? 8. Taylor Swift! Listening to her music makes you smarter (maybe) and having something fun to listen to can help you focus! 9. I’ve been subscribed to @thehazelwitch’s candle subscription for over a year now and I look forward to them every month. She’s a good girl and she’s been with me since I left for university the first time, she should get an honorary degree with me considering she’s always there when I’m working and studying anyways!
