Pothos Plants: A Beginner’s Favourite

March 19, 2023

Hey there plant fam! I want to talk to you about one of my favourite indoor plants – pothos plants! Also known as devil’s ivy, these beauties are super easy to care for and come in a variety of beautiful variegations. They not only add some greenery to your space but also purify the air. In this post, I’ll give you a complete guide to growing pothos plants indoors, including their care needs, pot size requirements, and the most popular variegations!

Care Guide:

I’ll be honest with you, I think pothos plants are one of the easiest plants to care for. All they need is bright, indirect sunlight and watering when the top inch of soil feels dry.

Heads up! These plants can be dramatic sometimes if the leaves start to look and feel soft or droopy, that means it’s time to water!

Overwatering can cause root rot, so make sure to let the soil dry out between waterings. These plants can handle a wide range of humidity levels, but I like to keep it between 40-60%. As for temperature, they thrive between  18.5 and 28 celsius (roughly 65 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit). An easy way to keep track of the temperature and humidity is to get a small humidity sensor, many of them also track temperature, and the perfect one is one that can be tucked in the area your plants live so it can be as accurate as possible!

Pot Size Needs:

When it comes to pot size, pothos plants don’t like to be in a pot that’s too big. A 6-8 inch pot is a great starting size for a young pothos plant, and you can repot it to a larger size as it grows. Just make sure that the pot has drainage holes at the bottom to prevent waterlogging!

Popular Pothos Variegations:

Now, let’s talk about some of the most popular variegations of pothos plants.

  1. Golden Pothos: This is the most common variety of pothos and has bright green leaves with yellow variegation. It grows quickly and can climb a moss pole or trellis.
  2. Marble Queen Pothos: This variety has white and green variegation and grows slightly slower than Golden Pothos. It’s perfect for brightening up a shady corner!
  3. Neon Pothos: This variety has bright green leaves with yellow-green variegation, making it one of the most eye-catching pothos plants. It likes bright, indirect light and can add a pop of colour to any room.

So what?

Pothos plants are the perfect choice for anyone who wants a low-maintenance plant that adds beauty and freshness to their space. Not only do they come in a variety of variegations, but they also purify the air, making them ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices. So whether you choose a Golden Pothos, Marble Queen, or Neon Pothos, I guarantee you’ll fall in love with these gorgeous plants.
